UK Central Hub

Recognizing the opportunity presented by rapid train services between London and Birmingham, the Urban Growth Company (UCG) set out to see what they would need to deliver transport, utility, and social regeneration in the area around the UK Central station.

UCG asked our team to help with guidance on the infrastructure that would be required to deliver the development—this included transport, energy, water, drainage, telecoms, social, and community spaces. We worked with a wider masterplan team to consider the phasing of the development over a twenty-year period, considering what may be needed to support the growth potential of the area and where and when it should be delivered. In 2016, our team provided a further update of costings for the infrastructure, based on revised targets for the growth. The subsequent infrastructure investment appraisal we produced formed the basis of information provided to HM Government as part of a bid for funds to deliver the benefits of the UK Central Hub.

Our work included liaising between various stakeholders including landowners, Jaguar Land Rover, Birmingham Airport, HS2 Ltd and the wider UGC team. This helped to ensure that the infrastructure required could be aligned with the interests of all parties to create the best environment possible for years to come.
