Regional Transport Strategy for Strathclyde

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), one of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships responsible for overseeing and facilitating transportation needs at a regional level, needed to prepare a new regional transport strategy (RTS) to plan the region’s transport approach over the next 20 years. Our team were brought in to support SPT throughout the process.

In preparing the new strategy, our team are identifying the present and future transport needs of the region, the practical means of addressing these needs, and setting out how transport in the region will be provided, developed, improved, and operated. We also must consider how to meet the needs of all inhabited places in the region including remote communities and the heavily-populated Glasgow conurbation .

The work is being developed to ensure the RTS plays a pivotal role in delivering national policy whilst achieving local aspirations. Crucially, we’re ensuring the RTS embraces the technical innovations and changes in the provision of transport services that are currently emerging in the industry.

The completed strategy will be a framework for the delivery of transport regionally and will be a key document for local authorities and private transport operators across Strathclyde.
