Lewisham Gateway

An innovative remodeling to address transport challenges

A million square feet of mixed-use development

Lewisham Gateway is a strategically located residential and commercial regeneration site at an important transport node in south east London—about 10 kilometres from Piccadilly Circus. It was previously identified as one of the first ten regeneration schemes in the Mayor of London’s ‘100 Public Spaces’ program which aims to create or upgrade one hundred public spaces in London. In total, the scheme will deliver around 900 new homes, as well as new retail, restaurant and commercial spaces and much improved bus, taxi and cycling facilities.

Our environmental planners managed a pragmatic scoping process to ensure a focused environmental impact assessment and designed interdisciplinary solutions to manage risks while enhancing the development. For example, we completed river works that managed flood risk, delivered ecological enhancement, and provided an attractive setting for a new area of open space. Our team also coordinated and planned the removal of a major roundabout to create direct pedestrian access between the town centre, residential areas and public transport, transforming the site with new public spaces and a riverside park.

Upon completion, the site will deliver a major new urban park, with enhanced waterways as a focal point, along with extensive public realm. The development’s aim is to boost the future urban fabric of Lewisham town centre and enhance its communities.
