East Lothian Council Local Economy Strategy

East Lothian Council (ELC) and external partners, including local businesses and the public, wanted to shape the strategic direction of one of Scotland’s fastest growing council areas. They engaged our help. Our Development Economics group worked closely with them to develop the Council’s Local Economy Strategy.

Our approach comprised an in-depth baseline of East Lothian. This included a socio-economic review, detailed stakeholder and community engagement, a community wealth building audit, and a strategic policy review. We developed this alongside a vision paper that formed the basis of the new strategy. The vision paper presented ELC’s vision, goals, and objectives for the next decade and outlined their delivery approach. This approach included a set of individual actions and interventions to realise the proposed outcomes, complete with measures, targets, and a framework for monitoring and evaluation.

All councillors approved the Local Economy Strategy in April 2024. We’ll continue to make recommendations and develop and support delivery plans with the ELC and their partners over the next five years as part of the commission.
