Durleigh Water Treatment Centre Refurbishment
Durleigh Water Treatment Centre (WTC) supplies Bridgwater and parts of Somerset with clean water. The plant treats raw water from the Durleigh reservoir and the Bridgwater and Taunton canal. In terms of capacity, it’s the second largest WTC in the Wessex Water region but has the highest operating costs.
Wessex Water who are responsible for delivering water to residents in parts of southwest England, has plans for a circa £50 million scheme to upgrade Durleigh WTC so that it can treat water at its full capacity.
Currently, Durleigh’s ability to treat water is limited by the deterioration of its raw water source and the condition and design of the aging plant.
Stantec have been providing support on the project principally for process engineering, as well as support from mechanical and civil engineers. This ranged initially from undertaking peer reviews of upgrades to the existing works, comparing the old and new technologies and reviewing Wessex Water’s treatment design standards. Our engagement developed further by providing design resources to support AECOM during detailed design. The site was taken out of supply at the end of August 2019 and construction works are now well underway.
