Stantec appointed to United Utilities’ Network Modelling Framework

The firm will provide interdisciplinary modelling services across the water company’s water and wastewater networks

11/11/2024 MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting, has been selected by United Utilities for two lots of its Network Modelling Framework—"Water Network and Water Quality Modelling” and “Wastewater Network Modelling.”

United Utilities is responsible for water and wastewater services in the North West of England; the company owns or manages 56,000 hectares across the North West. Its AMP8 programme is set to be the largest investment in water and wastewater infrastructure in the North West for a century.

As a framework supplier, Stantec will support United Utilities with a range of essential interdisciplinary modelling and analysis services, feeding into the water company’s capital programmes, asset management strategies, and operations. The framework will run for five years throughout AMP8, with an option to extend for another six throughout AMP9.

During this time, Stantec will help United Utilities’ network modelling team develop, verify, and maintain accurate water and wastewater network hydraulic models. This may include working on integrated urban drainage and rainwater models, solution modelling to support United Utilities’ AMP8 storm overflow capital programme, robust reporting projects, optioneering studies, and providing critical information to inform the prioritisation of water and wastewater infrastructure investment.

“With increasing environmental and societal pressures, having an accurate and real-time picture of assets and resources both above and below the surface is a crucial technical challenge for water companies to address,” said Scott Jackson, Stantec’s regional business lead for Water, United Kingdom and Ireland. “We have extensive reach across the North West, complemented by our expanding Manchester office and nationwide team of Stantec resources. We are looking forward to collaborating with United Utilities and its partners to boost operational performance while helping the water company meet regulatory requirements.”

Jane Simpson, Capital Delivery Director at United Utilities, added: “Our new network modelling partners will help us make informed decisions across operations and capital investment programmes by monitoring rivers, catchment land, and coastal infrastructure to see where we can improve our services and meet supply needs of the future.”

Throughout AMP8, Stantec is also working with United Utilities as a design development partner, supporting them with design services across the North West.
