Yale University – Yale Science Building
The new Yale Science Building provides interdisciplinary research laboratories, supporting work in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology; molecular biophysics and biochemistry; and atomic, molecular, and optical physics. Their goal? To encourage interaction and collaboration for the faculty and the students. To put all of that under one roof, Yale called on our architects and designers.
The seven-story, 277,500-square-foot building is constructed on the campus' renowned Science Hill. With a rooftop greenhouse, aquatics and insect labs, state-of-the-art imaging technology, and a 500-seat lecture hall, this complex assignment combines the demands of state-of-the-art laboratory design with sensitivity to the scale and history of Science Hill and its surrounding community.
High-level research collides with room for teaching opportunities in the same lab. Laboratories are arranged in large, open, modular neighborhoods with adjacent support rooms.
With all of these features plus collaboration spaces—planned in varying sizes and located at major circulation intersections—the new Yale Science Building brings students closer together and helps faculty collaborate more easily.
