TransCanada’s Marshfield Reduction Environmental Permitting

TransCanada needed environmental permitting to construct a natural gas compressor station at the Marshfield Reduction project site. This 40 acre site was a mix of wetland and upland areas, with forested wetlands and a runoff slough, and was the chosen project site to minimize environmental impacts.

Due to prior successful project experience, TransCanada chose Stantec to complete environmental permitting required for construction on this project. Stantec’s responsibilities included field surveys, public outreach, draft environmental resource reports, air permitting, noise assessment, state and local permitting, and preparing and submitting the draft environmental assessment. The project required a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which was the first application our local office completed for this client. Time was a critical factor for this project, by mobilizing a local inspector from our Stevens Point office, we were able to save the client time and money.

Stantec was also able to help out another client, WisDOT, through this project. TransCanada was looking for a place to put their wetland topsoil from the permanent fill area, and WisDOT was in need of wetland topsoil for a nearby mitigation bank. Stantec was able to connect WisDOT with TransCanada, who then hauled away the wetland topsoil, saving both parties money.
