Trafton Road Interchange

In October 2014, the City of Waterville, Maine decided to make essential upgrades to its road infrastructure. How?  A new partial-cloverleaf interchange at Mile 124 of Interstate 95—a major US highway that runs on the northwestern side of the City. Not only would an intersection at Tafton Road improve travel for commuters and maintain a gold standard of design, but it would boost business development in the Waterville community.

Our team provided expertise in ramp design, pier protection, highway lighting, road realignment, and intersection design. We began the design process by developing conceptual alternatives, drafting an alternative analysis report, and deciding on a preferred alternative that would minimize project costs while maintaining safety and mobility.

An accelerated schedule was necessary to meet federal grant deadlines, but we were able to surpass expectations by submitting the construction advertising package earlier than scheduled. The Department of Transportation praised us for an excellent design and construction plan.

This project is the first "Business Partnership Initiative" project in the state. The program aims to give road projects a higher priority—if developers help pay for them.
