Alleviating traffic congestion and shortening the commute to West Palm Beach

Cited as a critical priority by the state, work is underway on a long awaited northern expansion of SR 7, a major arterial in South Florida. Stantec is providing project management and design services to widen an existing 3.5 mile roadway section—from two to four lanes—and construct a new five mile, four lane divided road.

Much of the new alignment borders environmentally sensitive areas. So, while the roadway is critical, a key priority for our client and the local community was to complete the project without impact to adjacent sensitive habitats and a major drinking water source for the City of West Palm Beach. Our ability to address this imperative by providing engineered safeguards resulted in permit approvals from multiple government agencies including the US Army Corps of Engineers, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, and the South Florida Water Management District.

The project involves roadway and drainage design, bridge analysis and design, roundabout design, signing and marking, signalization and lighting, and major public involvement. When complete, SR 7 will alleviate traffic congestion, shorten the commute to West Palm Beach, and improve emergency evacuation and access.
