SR-93 / I-75 and Miramar Parkway Interchange Design-Build

Our team designed the Miramar Parkway interchange project with the one goal in mind—to relieve the heavy congestion along the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike (HEFT) during the morning and afternoon peak hours. After studying many alternatives, our team suggested adding auxiliary lanes in both northbound and southbound directions between the HEFT Turnpike connection ramps and the Miramar Interchange along I-75, which spans approximately 1.4 miles.

Another project goal was to improve the Miramar Interchange exit ramps. As a result, each of these free-flow single lane exit ramps were realigned to a signalized intersection with dual-right turn lanes. To further urbanize the corridor, we added pedestrian sidewalks and railings along westbound Miramar Parkway and the Miramar Bridge. Our team also replaced the overhead sign structures.

To ensure we addressed any concerns the community had about noise walls and barriers along the corridor, we conducted a survey of homeowner’s in the area. We received an overwhelming positive response in favor of the noise walls, so we included that in our final design.

And, our commitment to our local community paid off. The project was awarded the Florida Transportation Builder’s Association Best Construction Award and the Design Build Institute of America’s Florida Regional Design-Build Honorary Award in 2013.
