Proto
Proto is a 22-story mixed-use residential tower in the Kendall Square neighborhood of Cambridge. A hub of science and innovation, the neighborhood is home to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and one of the largest life science clusters in the world.
The unit mix of mostly studio and one-bedroom apartments has been developed to serve the unique needs of the neighborhood demographic of graduate students and millennial STEM workers looking for modern, efficient apartment living with easy access to work. The design reflects a modern, but approachable environment with exposed concrete throughout, cozy furniture in common areas, and vibrant art that speaks to the neighborhood’s history as home to NASA’s Electronic Research Center.
On top of the standard amenities like a dog spa, outdoor terrace, and large common living room, the building features a mixture of co-living and working spaces including reservable work rooms, communal laundry lounge, and a digital jam and gaming cave known as the Garage. This allows residents to seamlessly blend work with play all from the comfort of their home—flexibility is key in designing amenities that residents can truly make their own.
