315 on A

For the first new residential tower in Boston’s emerging Innovation District, 315 on A makes a bold statement about the area’s evolving identity and energetic spirit. A beacon on the neighborhood’s eastern edge, 315 on A rises high above the surrounding early 20th century brick and beam warehouses. By skinning the building in precast concrete panels in hues of gold and terracotta, the design recalls the materiality of nearby buildings and knits it into the urban fabric.

Inside, gracious common spaces enrich residents’ lives and strengthen a sense of community. To encourage residents to work or socialize outside their units, the floor-through common room on the main level is thoughtfully equipped with inviting lounge areas, a double-sided fireplace, a full kitchen with oversized farmhouse table and technology-equipped meeting rooms. On the 20th floor there’s a fitness center, another lounge area with full kitchen, and a roof deck with panoramic views of downtown Boston and the Seaport District.

Numerous sustainable design elements helped the project achieve LEED® Gold Certification including wood floors milled from beams reclaimed from the site, non-toxic finishes, energy-efficient appliances, Nest thermostats, and a 22.8 kwH building integrated photovoltaic array along the roofline, which generates enough energy to power 14 homes annually.
