Leveraging our knowledge of educational design to help Peninsula College optimize Maier Hall

On the northern tip of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, Peninsula College (PC) hosts more than 5,000 students and offers a wide array of courses in arts and sciences. When the college was designing Maier Hall—a facility to include a performance hall, learning center, music room, and liberal arts center—they engaged our design team for electrical, lighting, acoustical, and technology assistance.

Set in the City of Port Angeles, we provided the lighting design for the 70,000-square-foot educational facility. Maier Hall’s performance hall provides an intimate theatre space for music, film, and the spoken word, while the learning center features educational amenities for math, writing, and foreign language learning. The building also features classrooms, labs, and practice rooms for music students, as well as a liberal arts center for English, social sciences, and humanity sciences.

The project has achieved LEED Gold Certification with innovations such as a daylight harvesting, geothermal energy, and an innovative moss roof.
