Ingredion Central Plant Improvements

With tight constraints to avoid interruption of existing steam services, we worked with Ingredion for the design and construction phase services needed to add a seven megawatt (MW) combined heat and power system to an existing powerplant.

The scope of the project included continued use of the existing auxiliary boiler (relegated to standby), the installation of a new 7 MW Solar Taurus T-70 turbine-generator; new heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), complete with 100% fresh air firing as the new primary process steam source, as well as the close scheduling of plant piping tie-ins to limit steam service interruptions.

When an unrelated, unexpected emergency electrical repair arose after a 12 kV transformer fire shut down the entire plant, our team assisted with temporary and permanent electrical service restoration in parallel with completing construction of the cogeneration facility.

Through the course of the central plant improvements, our team also delivered support for power, gas, steam, water air, sewer, and storm water utility tie-ins. We provided permitting support for building needs and hazardous materials, as well as construction management services. The result? A plant that was able to expand without interruption, providing uninterrupted services to the community.
