George T. Snyder Trail
When the City of Fairfax set out to connect their regional trail network, the solution was the George T. Snyder trail. Our trail design experts are providing a variety of engineering and environmental services for the design of 1.4 miles (2.3 kilometres) of trail including stormwater management, erosion and sediment control plans, and drainage design.
We’re also providing environmental services for phases 1, 2, and 3 in order to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) concept of a single and complete project. The wetland delineation, stream assessment, archaeology, architectural review, and NEPA documents will extend to the full two miles (three kilometres) of planned trail.
In addition, our work includes coordination with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Federal Highways Administration (FHWA) to use both state and federal funds through a locally administered project (LAP) process.
The George T. Snyder trail will fill gaps in the existing regional trail network and—once complete—will provide the region with a better way to get to the Vienna Metrorail Station and the Cross County Connector Tail, a 40-mile (64-kilometre) trail that runs throughout Fairfax County.
