Galatyn Commons

The outdoor space at Galatyn Commons in Richardson, Texas was in need of renovations. The existing space was dated and uninviting—it felt more like an area to pass by, rather than congregate or work. To remedy this, our team was hired to provide landscape architecture, civil engineering, MEP engineering, structural engineering, and survey services.

Throughout the design, our team used 3D modeling and renderings to share proposed changes, validate design intent, verify selected materials, and ensure collective buy-in from the entire project team. With virtual reality headsets, we helped our client view the rendered models up close, even when located halfway across the country.

The goal of the renovation? To use the million square feet of space in a way that felt intimate and inviting, but with a pedestrian scale. To achieve this, the interior campus courtyard was grouped into distinct spaces—each with unique defining characteristics and amenities. These new clusters establish an expansive outdoor program, which includes an outdoor kitchen, fire pit, summer deck, work space, bocce courts, entry monument, food trucks, outdoor dining, and event spaces for large gatherings and concerts.

A tight schedule and limited base information posed threats to success, but our team completed the project in time for a music festival with a capacity of 70,000 people! The open space improvements effectively redefined the image of the corporate campus and provided usable outdoor areas with a fresh modern design for both work and play.
