Du Quoin Former MGP Site Assessment and Remediation

It’s important to remove any remnants of the former plant and other environmental impacts associated with its former use to protect the health and safety of the surrounding community. That's why, when a local utility company undertook a former manufactured gas plant in Du Quoin, Illinois, they needed restore the site and ensure the property was safe for development into a residential area or park. They approached us to complete a comprehensive site investigation and remediation of the site.

The comprehensive site investigation was conducted in accordance with requirements of the Illinois EPA site remediation program, which requires the type and extent of contamination at the site to be fully characterized. Part of the program requires the development of cleanup standards and preparation of a cleanup plan. The client selected Stantec because of our manufactured gas plant expertise, knowledge of the site remediation program, record of successfully completing similar projects for other plant sites and recognition that the local community is a stakeholder in the investigation and remediation process.

Today, the site is in the process of being restored for use as a lumber yard.
