Cooper University Hospital Building Expansion

With only three level-one trauma centers in New Jersey and a national increase in emergency department volumes, wait times at the Cooper University Hospital were getting longer. Because of this, they needed to expand—we were brought in to help.

In order to addresses patient flow efficiency, the existing space required improvement of how patients would move through the space. One of the challenges of the project was finding a cost-effective solution with tight space requirements due to the proximity of the property lines. Our team vetted 4 different modular construction companies, coordinated the design with the architect to assess stick built vs. modular construction, construction and integration on behalf of Cooper.

As a result of the initial space planning exercise, the team developed a modular template where CUH could make an informed decision based on information provided by the team (cost, schedule, and operational impact). The new addition is a full modular I-2 unit constructed off-site in Ephrata, PA, and was shipped to the project site in Camden, NJ.

The project was successfully delivered to help provide continuing care for the Camden and Philadelphia communities.
