What does affordable housing look like in a thriving metro area?

Ashley Union Station Multi-Family Housing Unit

Ashley Union Station is the first and only truly mixed-income property in the Union Station development. While Denver Union Station has received national attention as an example of a thriving, transit-oriented community, there were simply no affordable housing options in the neighborhood. Higher rent meant that, in many cases, the people who work in the new restaurants, boutiques, and grocery stores in this highly-desirable area couldn’t afford to live where they worked.

At least, they couldn’t until recently.

This four-story, 107-unit apartment complex at 18th Street and Chestnut Place offers income-restricted units just blocks from Union Station. The $30 million development has 75 units available to households with incomes below the area median income (AMI) while the remainder of the units are rented at market rate.

Our team provided architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and lighting design on the project. We worked together to deliver a design that promotes equity, supports mobility, and fosters stronger community connections. Something any resident would be proud to live in, regardless of income.

In recognition of these efforts and for adding to the fabric of Denver, Ashley Union Station was awarded the 2017 Mayor’s Design Award in the Density by Design category and was one of the 2018 Downtown Denver Partnership’s Downtown Award recipients.
