YUL Montreal-Trudeau International Airport Main Runway Rehabilitation
Aéroports de Montreal (ADM) needed to undertake major rehabilitation work on its main runway (06G-24D) at YUL Montreal-Trudeau International Airport as it was reaching the end of its useful life. Due to heavy traffic at the airport, the runway had to be rehabilitated without affecting daily operations, especially during the summer months.
Our team began by proposing an astute phasing of the work in keeping with air traffic levels. After conducting a detailed analysis of the runway surface, we worked with ADM to develop a hybrid rehabilitation concept that took into account the condition and use of the various runway zones. The runway was covered with cement concrete slabs, carefully placed to match the existing pavement structures. The levels of the lanes adjacent to the main runway were raised or rebuilt, with transitions designed to allow perfect cohesion with the runway. To reduce the environmental footprint of the project, the team also reused most of the 60,000 cubic metres (2,118,880 cubic feet) of excavated material on site to upgrade access roads and the terrain around the runway, taxiways, and roads.
Designed to meet the highest quality standards, this new runway will enable YUL Montreal-Trudeau International Airport to welcome two million passengers a month and solidify its position on the world stage.
