Town of Stratford - Climate Lens Assessments

To secure Investing Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) funding for four key municipal projects, the Town of Stratford requested the support of our Climate Services group to complete Climate Lens assessments for each project.

Climate Lens assessments include two parts: a climate resilience assessment and a greenhouse gas mitigation assessment. For the climate resilience assessments, we developed climate projection data, listed of infrastructure assets, and calculated current and future climate risks to help inform infrastructure design. Adaptation measures were proposed for higher-risk scenarios and components as part of the project. The greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions for these projects were estimated by changes in energy efficiency due to the project components or by displacement of more carbon-intensive for heating and/or electricity. The estimate considered potential GHG emissions during new construction as well as regular operations and maintenance.

Throughout these projects, we held in-person meetings with the project team to review and confirm project inputs such as infrastructure components and changes in fuel usage. Our work was able to inform the design of new municipal assets regarding climate change impacts, and highlight GHG reductions through these projects, while also providing the Town of Stratford with the information they needed to proceed with these projects.
