Kinder Morgan Pipeline Reactivation
When it came time to reactivate the Kinder Morgan pipeline, the environment was top of mind. Rather than building new pipelines, existing segments were reactivated to avoid construction that wouldn’t disturb wildlife and ecosystems.
Due to the nature of trans mountain pipelines, rough terrain played a major factor in what could be executed and how. We worked to ensure that we found the most cost effective, environmentally responsible, and technically sound methods to investigate existing pipeline segments being considered for reactivation. We used an mTOOLS™ custom application that provided the team with remote access to project documents, specifications, HSSE forms, and inspection reporting.
We also worked with the community to discuss the route the pipeline would take, developing a design and operational philosophy. We collaborated with Indigenous communities to ensure their needs and concerns were met and committed to ongoing monitoring of the pipeline. This project fits with Canada’s climate plan to 2030 and is designed to protect our oceans, coastlines, and promote the recovery of southern killer whale populations.
While the outcome is ongoing, the completion of the project will provide Canada with another operational pipeline that safely and reliably delivers valuable energy resources to the coast.
