Amherst Island Wind Farm

As part of Ontario's Feed-in-Tariff program, Windlectric Inc. is developing the Amherst Island Wind Project. Located on Amherst Island, west of Kingston, Ontario, the project is situated where wind conditions are prime.

The project includes 26 wind turbine generators, a 34.5 kilovolt underground and an overhead electrical power transmission line collector system, fibre optic data lines from each turbine and wireless technology for the communication of data. It also includes a submarine cable, an operations and maintenance building, an island substation, a mainland switching station and meteorological towers.

We were retained to provide engineering services for the design and execution of the project—this includes geotechnical, municipal roads, civil, electrical, structural engineering, as well as project management, construction, P&C and SCADA programming and commissioning services. We also provided specifications and tender documents, bill of materials, and shop drawing review as well as project management and administration.

With the Amherst Island Wind Farm in place, the Hydro One Ontario network will be provided with clean, renewable energy for years to come.
