Mba Delta Ironsands Project

Supporting several mine upgrades with studies and detailed design

Confirming viability and profitability for future mine enhancements

When Waratah Group was looking to dredge the ironsands from the bottom of the Ba River, located on the island of Viti Levu, Fiji, they brought us in to produce a feasibility study. The study had to include a dredge in the inter-tidal delta, a floating concentrator, barging to the port washing, and storage facility and ship loading.

Following the successful completion of the feasibility study, we were appointed to undertake the detailed design, contracting, and procurement for the port washing and storage facility. This new build facility included a barge unloading reclaimer, filtration plant, product storage shed, conveyor system, ship loader, and process water tanks. The project team tendered and evaluated eleven procurement contracts and six construction contracts.

We worked to ensure the low capex requirements of the project were addressed during the bankable feasibility study, detailed design, and tendering phases. We completed quantity tracking several times throughout the design to monitor estimated progress, and we held weekly design review meetings with the client.

The project advanced to the construction phase and is now a fully operational ironsand magnetite project covering approximately 132 square kilometres.
