East Perth Power Station Environmental Services

The East Perth Power Station (EPPS) generated power for the community from 1916 until 1981. An icon in Perth’s history, it’s one of the very few large-scale facilities still standing from the World War I era. With wide political and public interest in future development at EPPS, DevelopmentWA brought our team in to undertake contaminated land management services to help mitigate risk to people and the environment. The site includes four individual land parcels, approximately nine hectares (22 acres) total, all classified as contaminated under the Contaminated Sites Act 2003.

Our services included preliminary site investigations, a sampling analysis quality plan including development of conceptual site models, and a contamination investigation on the site’s soil, groundwater, biota, surface water, vapor, and sediment. We also managed hazardous material assessments and audits, acid sulfate soil investigation and management plans, human health and environment risk assessments, and remediation assessments and data reports. Additionally, we provided environmental approvals associated with future development opportunities and stakeholder engagement associated with heritage and Indigenous consultations.

All works are subject to audit by a Department of Water and Environment accredited contaminated sites auditor, who will prepare a Mandatory Auditors Report once the site is considered suitable to be re-classified under the Contaminated Sites Act 2003.
