An oasis for everyone—rain or shine!

When you need to take a break from work, you can find an oasis of play on the sunny foreshore in the Dampier Palms and Hampton Oval redevelopment—only a 20 minute drive away from central Karratha town. We partnered with the City of Karratha in the preliminary design phase of this destination foreshore. The revitalized site offers an enhanced coastal recreational experience with a vibrant foreshore that mingles old and new.

Eager to create renewed leisure opportunities for everyone, we proposed distinct areas for different age groups and abilities using local plants and pleasant landscape design to help unify the zones. With requirements to keep existing trees in place, we proposed minimal site grading to lessen impact on the mature trees. We also remained sensitive to the existing vegetation by augmenting the older trees with new tree plantings and upgraded irrigation. And since Karratha is in a cyclonic zone, we considered cyclone rated materials for other key features that include: an amphitheater, shade structures, a boardwalk, lighting, path networks, and car parking. The renewed foreshore precinct caters to a wide range of activities, including land- and water-based activities, and community and commercial events.

Dampier Palms has become a welcoming oasis by the water where residents and visitors alike can enjoy a coastal recreation experience whether it’s in the wet or dry season!
