Cone Bay Infauna Sampling

An analysis of sediment quality in relation to fish farming operations

    Kimberly, Western Australia

Our surveys and data analysis techniques provide valuable assessment of fish farming impacts on local environments

When Marine Produce Australia (MPA)—operator of the continent’s largest ocean-based barramundi farm in Western Australia’s Cone Bay—needed to understand the impact of their operations on sea-floor sediments, they called on our team’s expertise in benthic surveys.

After analyzing and characterizing the field data against advanced multivariate statistics, we were able to confirm that the farm meets the Environment Protect Authority’s sediment quality standards. Having this baseline data not only informs MPA’s future planning, but it also helps the company maintain sustainability in their barramundi farm operations.

Our findings are now helping to support environmental monitoring and management plan changes in Cone Bay—helping to protect and care for our natural resources while supporting economic opportunity.
