John has worked on a variety of projects in his 36 year career. One focus is community planning, guiding over 100 communities in the preparation, adoption, and implementation of plans. He guides them through each phase in the life of their community, from initial development to redevelopment.
John is an advocate for creative reuse and redevelopment. He has helped clients convert a suburban mall into a walkable mixed-use neighborhood and reclaim a 2,000 acre gravel mine into a retail and mixed use development. This passion led John to transit oriented development (TOD), maximizing benefits from transit investment from a corridor-wide level down to individual projects. He believes that our best strategy for improving communities is to recreate and reimagine transit systems.
John is working on the Whitehorn multi-use service center TOD project in Calgary and is about to start work in Greater Bridgeport, Connecticut, one of Stantec’s largest and highest profile TOD projects to date.
