Joe, a benthic ecologist, aquatic biologist, and taxonomist with over 20 years of experience, founded and manages Stantec’s benthic ecology laboratory in Kitchener, Ontario. As a project manager with a focus on aquatic pursuits, he coordinates and participates in benthic, mussels, and fisheries proposals, projects, and field programs. His work includes surveys, relocations, and analyzing and interpreting data to provide ecological context, and his main areas of expertise are in freshwater and marine taxonomic identification of benthic invertebrates.
Recently, Joe helped coordinate a freshwater mussel relocation project in Ottawa, Ontario, that involved a dozen biologists and a ten-person dive crew. The project relocated over 40,000 mussels to protect them from potential construction activity impacts.
When he isn’t completing environmental effects monitoring programs or completing fish habitat and community inventory assessments, you might find Joe reading, playing board games, or snorkeling.
