Energy Finance Expert Alexandros Grivas adds to the Stantec international development team’s technical expertise
As the Stantec international development operation in Belgium continues to effectively grow, as recognized by Belgian magazine ‘Trends’ with a Gazellen nomination and Trends Top award, one of their strategic objectives is to bolster in-house technical expertise to continue their expedient and excellent project delivery for international donor clients.
A clear step in this direction, Stantec is happy to be welcoming Alexandros Grivas to the team. Alexandros is a energy finance expert who has manged several large-scale EU-funded projects in the infrastructure sector, mainly focusing on energy. He has a strong economics background from which he chose to steer his career towards the international development sector as a means of applying his knowledge in a way that can positively impact communities around the world.
“There is a great opportunity to provide security to developing communities through a stabilized energy sector, and I am proud of the role I am able to play in this on the financial side of the energy transition. I look forward to this opportunity to leverage my background to create an even bigger impact in this next chapter with Stantec,” comments Alexandros.
Originally from Greece, Alexandros’ experience has taken him beyond his European roots to Africa, where he has worked on projects in Ghana, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Cape Verde, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Kenya and Liberia. He supported these countries in several capacities such as financial management, data collection and analysis, monitoring and evaluation of projects and by conducting financial feasibility studies. His ability to realize these tasks under pressure and to meet deadlines was reinforced during his time on the Sustainable Energy for ALL (SE4ALL) project, a project implemented in partnership with Stantec, where he acted in both project manager and technical expert roles. “Working with Stantec on SE4ALL gave me some great insight into the company Stantec is and wants to be, and the people who work on the team in La Hulpe. I look forward to being part of that and continuing our work through the next phase of this project, the Global Technical Assistance Facility for Sustainable Energy,” remarks Alexandros.
“Our team already works on a number of projects where Alexandros’ expertise is very valuable, so I see several opportunities for him to immediately make a great impact,” remarks Belgium Operations Director Christophe Leroy. “We are looking to build on our experience in the energy and climate financing arena, and the addition of Alexandros to the team is a clear show of this commitment,” he concludes.
