Spreading holiday cheer with $150,000 in donations to nonprofit organizations globally

December 10, 2024

We give employees the power to choose where Stantec directs our annual donation

At the end of each year, we give back to our communities around the globe with a donation of C$100,000. This year, we’re proud to increase our donation to C$150,000, allowing us to make an even greater impact in the lives of those we serve and strengthen our connection to the communities where we live and work. What makes this initiative particularly special? Stantec’s global employees are actively involved in the decision-making process, voting for their preferred charities and helping create a curated list of 10 organizations. This approach helps the Company align our global impact with the passions of our employees.

The C$150,000 in donations to organizations around the globe represents more than just a monetary contribution—it’s a reflection of our shared values and commitment to redefining what’s possible with our communities. By promoting active participation in the process, we aim to encourage a shared sense of responsibility for making a difference in the world. As the donations are distributed to the chosen nonprofits, Stantec looks forward to seeing the tangible outcomes of this collective effort. Whether it's providing education opportunities, supporting healthcare initiatives, helping promote food security, or contributing to environmental sustainability, we’re proud to contribute to positive and lasting impacts in the communities we serve.

The organizations receiving donations this year are:

Beyond Blue is the most well-known mental health organization in Australia and has provided support and services to people in need for over 20 years. They maintain a safe and reliable place for millions of people to access information, advice, and support.

Mind is a mental health charity in England and Wales. Founded in 1946, Mind offers information and advice to people with mental health problems and lobbies government and local authorities on their behalf.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) envisions a world where all people affected by mental illness live healthy, fulfilling lives supported by a community that cares. NAMI provides advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) provides the resources and programs necessary to combat mental health issues and support recovery. The CMHA runs multiple programs a year focused on raising awareness around mental health issues while supporting partner organizations and relevant initiatives. The association is also known to release public statements addressing different laws, regulations, and governmental initiatives that affect mental health.

Code.org is an education innovation nonprofit dedicated to the vision that every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science as part of their core K-12 education. They expand access to computer science in schools, with a focus on increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups.

One Tree Planted is dedicated to making it easier for both individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity, and help reforestation efforts. Since 2014—and working with partners in more than 80 countries in North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Pacific—they have planted over 92.7 million trees.

The Nature Conservancy New Zealand is tackling the dual threats of accelerated climate change and unprecedented biodiversity loss. Science determines where they focus, and equity guides how they achieve lasting results. Grounded by decades of local on-the-ground experience, they maximize their ability to affect change by bringing together real-world solutions, policy expertise, sustainable financing and collaborative partnerships.

FIRST Robotics US is a global nonprofit that engages young people ages 4-18 in robotics programs aimed at developing skills for the future. Through school and afterschool programs, FIRST offers hands-on, team-based challenges that promote self-confidence and problem-solving. Supported by volunteers, educators, and sponsors, FIRST helps participants grow through a core set of values, STEM-focused activities, career connections, and access to scholarships, creating lifelong community members.

Actua is a prominent Canadian organization dedicated to empowering youth across the country through STEM. Partnering with a network of universities and colleges, Actua provides impactful STEM learning experiences that build critical skills and confidence. Committed to inclusivity, Actua addresses barriers to engagement at both local and systemic levels, widening pathways to STEM education and careers to prepare all youth for future opportunities, barrier-free.

SPCA International launched in 2007, providing grants to animal welfare organizations in the US and over 60 countries to improve shelter conditions, support spay/neuter programs, and reduce euthanasia rates. SPCA International also runs educational programs to promote humane animal care. As the organization grows, it continues to expand its programs, shelter grants, and educational resources, making a global impact on animal welfare.

All these organizations—in their varied and distinct ways—work to create, support, and strengthen communities. We’re proud to contribute to these collective efforts, and we've donated just over C$919,000 through this campaign since 2010.
