Updating an asset register to enable more effective operational investment and strategic maintenance decisions
South West Water, a water and wastewater company serving the South West of England, wanted to better understand their asset valuations in preparation for their 2024 Price Review (PR24) submission to Ofwat, the water services regulator for England and Wales. South West Water contacted our team to help carry out an update of the asset register as part of their Asset Improvement Programme.
The original purpose of the programme was to conduct onsite condition surveys of these assets using the ArcGIS Survey 123 platform. However, our work expanded to include gathering asset information such as power ratings, customs numbers, and manufacturer details. All the data was finally stored on Ellipse, the asset management database used by South West Water.
Under Phases 1 and 2 of the update, we have assessed more than 10,000 assets across South West Water’s sites. These assets included water treatment and sewage treatment works, as well as water ancillaries such as booster pumping stations and raw water intakes.
A third phase of the programme is currently pending, which will include the examination of assets at 15 remaining sites and an additional 25 pumping stations.
