Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has appointed Sarah Langhorne as its new marketing director for the United Kingdom and Ireland (UK&I). With more than 15 years of experience driving growth through impactful campaigns, Langhorne joins the Company from Hydrock, the national integrated engineering design firm acquired by Stantec in May last year.
She will now lead Stantec’s UK&I marketing team helping the Company capitalise on an increasing number of cross-sector opportunities while it expands across these regions. Based in Bristol, and with a nationwide remit, she will develop and refine Stantec’s UK&I marketing strategy, campaigns, and positioning while identifying novel business prospects and industry trends for the global consultancy to harness.
Harnessing new opportunities
Langhorne played an integral role during Stantec’s acquisition of Hydrock and has since been instrumental throughout the integration process, coordinating communications and profiling efforts between the firms. During her 10 years at Hydrock, she supported the executive leadership team in delivering rapid and strategic growth, rising to the position of marketing director while generating impactful, nationally acclaimed campaigns. One such example, is an award-winning Building Safety Act campaign educating built environment audiences around the shift in safety culture following the Grenfell disaster. This activity was cited as being pivotal in Hydrock being named Building Magazine’s 2023 ‘Consultant of the Year’.
With extensive subject expertise around power and connectivity, nature-based solutions, sustainable design, and data centres, Langhorne is poised to help Stantec’s team reach and engage new audiences. In her new role, she will support Stantec’s leadership in demonstrating the company’s strengthened capabilities for new and existing clients.
Showcasing local and global expertise
“I’ve always been passionate about translating complex theories, ideas, and notions into engaging stories that resonate with people and ultimately grab their attention,” said Langhorne, commenting on her new role. “Since the acquisition, I’ve been struck by the authenticity within our leadership when it comes to creating a supportive, people-focused culture. Stantec truly is an exciting place to work, creating tangible impacts that are felt by communities in the UK&I, backed by both local and global expertise.”
The company employs close to 4,000 people within the UK&I from 25 locations. Together, its teams are delivering innovative design and engineering solutions to address the nations’ biggest built environment challenges.
Brian Yates, managing director for the UK&I added: “Sarah’s experience supporting Hydrock’s growth journey will prove invaluable when it comes to accelerating our own. The issues we are addressing—from resilience against climate impacts and solving the housing crisis, to driving national economic growth—make for incredible stories and thought leadership. Her focus on people, culture, and wellbeing will help us solidify our position as both an industry-leading consultant and an employer of choice. I’m looking forward to seeing Sarah use her passions to drive our marketing and recruitment efforts forward.”
Stantec was recently named one of the best places to work in the UK by Glassdoor and has been recognised in Building Magazine’s 2025 Good Employer Guide.
