Stantec supports local authorities in gaining £129 million of Levelling Up funding in 2023

Three more transformational community projects benefit from successful bids for Levelling Up funding

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has supported three community-focused regeneration projects in securing more than £57 million of Levelling Up funding. This brings the total level of investment awarded to local authorities with support from Stantec in 2023 to just over £129 million.

The Drumchapel area in Glasgow, the ToneWorks and Tone Dale project in Somerset, as well as the Three Rivers project in Dumfries and Galloway were all chosen to benefit from the third round of funding.

Having worked with Stantec’s community development and economics specialists to create successful bids, local authorities responsible for these areas can now move these projects forward and transform their communities.

Glasgow City Council received £15 million of funding to regenerate the core of Drumchapel Town Centre. The project aims to deliver enhanced community facilities, improve accessibility and connectivity by bringing new walking and cycling routes as well as innovative projects to tackle flooding issues and further develop local greenspace.

Nearly £20 million was released to support ‘A Vision for Tonedale’. This scheme from Somerset Council looks to transform and sustainably regenerate the nationally significant heritage site at Toneworks and enhance the surrounding land so it can be used by the community.

Further north in Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway Council, Scottish Borders Council, and South Lanarkshire Council were jointly allocated £22.8 million for the Three Rivers Active Tourism Project. The successful bid supported investment on three projects, one to be led by each of the local authorities. These will transform the centre of Peebles, Annan Harbour, and the Cyldesdale Way. Collectively, the projects will support local communities, attract more visitors to the areas, and encourage more active lifestyles.

“This year, we’ve been able to help some of the most vital regeneration proposals get the support they need to move forward,” said Stephen Cox, Stantec director of economics and regeneration.

“I’m proud of our teams, who have used their knowledge and expertise to create bids that tell an engaging story of how these schemes will transform communities for the better. I’d also like to congratulate our visionary local authority partners who will use these funds to improve resilience, health and wellbeing, and economic prosperity in their regions.”
