Yorkshire Water and Stantec celebrate Utility Week Awards shortlisting

Yorkshire Water and Stantec have been shortlisted for the Innovation Award at the 2020 Utility Week Awards for their work on the industry leading Hadfield Smart Network Pilot Study.

The Utility Week Awards celebrate and reward the hard work, commitment and expertise of the utility companies, teams and individuals that are keeping the country’s essential services running.

Yorkshire Water and Stantec have embarked on the largest and most extensive smart water network pilot in the UK - the Hadfield Smart Network. With seventeen companies in the digital water space, a collaboration was formed which included Stantec, BT, Xylem, Itron, ATi, Inflowmatix, HWM, Gutermann, Technolog, Servelec/Primayer, Connexin, Arqiva/Sensus, Invenio, MUS and Syrinix to further improve the essential water supply service provided to Sheffield.

The scope of the ambitious industry-wide collaboration is to test the latest cutting-edge digital water meters, sensors, advanced analytics and telecommunications channels.

Smart water networks can prevent the significant (20% on average) network pressurization and chemical costs lost due to leakage. Smart water networks can also reduce the cost of field operations and maintenance, leakage detection, quality monitoring and repair. The trial has resulted in 50% of leakage being identified on the customer side in DMA’s with full smart meter penetration.

The winners of the Utility Week Awards will be announced at a virtual ceremony which takes place on 8 February 2021.
