Stantec supports planning application for sustainable community development in West Oxfordshire

Stantec UK has supported Grosvenor Britain & Ireland on the planning application for a new community development in Eynsham, West Oxfordshire, UK

07/03/2020 OXFORDSHIRE; UNITED KINGDOM TSX, NYSE:STN

Grosvenor Britain & Ireland have submitted a planning application for Oxfordshire Garden Village, one of the 14 garden villages endorsed by the UK Government to help meet the UK’s housing need. Stantec provided essential technical and engineering support for the application which will progress the development of the Garden Village, situated to the north of Eynsham in West Oxfordshire, UK.

Oxfordshire Garden Village will provide 2200 new homes, new primary and secondary schools, sporting facilities and parks. As well as the investment in residential property and community facilities, the development will also provide a 27-hectre business park designed to attract advanced manufacturing businesses and bring an economic and employment boost to the area post pandemic.

Designed with sustainable community in mind, the development will enhance the natural environment and embrace low-carbon technologies. 20% of energy usage in the village will come from renewables and land will be safeguarded for a smart energy hub and an electric vehicle charging station. The entire site will use electricity for heating and hot water to help save up to 80% of carbon emissions compared with gas heating. The village will also benefit from a network of green cycle and walking routes linking homes and workplaces, including a dedicated cycleway to the local station.

Stantec has provided engineering and environmental services for the development, delivering technical consultancy on transport, environmental impact assessments, drainage, utilities, energy, waste, lighting, noise, air quality, sustainability and climate change. Stantec forms part of the larger project team, working alongside AECOM as planning consultant and Terence O’Rourke delivering design, masterplanning and environmental disciplines.

The Oxfordshire Garden Village presents the opportunity to not only deliver much needed homes and employment opportunities in the area but to support sustainable growth that will enhance the natural environment and support carbon reduction ambitions. Community is at the heart of everything we do at Stantec and we’re proud to be a part of a project that will meet the needs of local residents and businesses while consciously minimising any negative impact on the local eco-system.

The Oxfordshire Garden Village project has sought to adapt garden village principles for the 21st century, something Stantec advocates, while involving the community in every step of the development. Stantec has supported Grosvenor in extensive consultation with local communities ahead of submitting the planning application.

Details of the plans for the Oxford Garden Village are available on the West Oxfordshire District Council planning portal.

Stantec has been involved in the development of other Garden Cities around the UK including Ebbsfleet and Halsnead.
