The roadmap to an electric future

Electric Vehicles are an integral component of the smart mobility ecosystem that is poised to have an increasingly positive effect on climate change.

The electrification of transportation will bring fundamental changes to our society, including how we design our roads, power grids, commercial buildings, and even our parking lots. But the most impactful change will be to our behaviours around personal travel. Refuelling our vehicles will be something we do not once a week but every day. Most of the charging will happen at home, but a significant portion will need to happen on route or at a destination. This needs radical new thinking of the relationship between movement and energy, which is where our expert teams have the experience and insights to reimagine how we design the infrastructure to set us on the road for an electric future.

With the Government ban on petrol and diesel cars set to come into effect from 2040, we are working now with our clients to design sustainable smart mobility solutions for the future.  Combining expertise from across the business we can advise from initial planning assessment to securing project funding to completion.

Our Electric Vehicle Services Offering

EV Readiness Planning We help prepare a long-term plan for implementing an EV Charging program; coordination with other initiatives, such as renewable energy programs or the use of Zero Emission Buses (ZEBs), to multiply the effect of the EV program.
Post Construction Our teams can help with record drawing development and project closeout.
Education and Outreach Preparing tools and distributing information about programs and EV technology to improve community participation and adoption is key and we can support you in this endeavour.
Environmental Impacts Our teams cam help quantify the positive effects on air quality and climate change from the transition on both a personal and region-wide basis.
Fleet Transitions Our teams can develop a plan to transform your fleet from internal combustion engines to EVs, including functionality analysis, financing options, vehicle availability research, locating charging stations and logistics planning.
Technical Guidance We help develop specifications and requirements for the development of publicly available charging stations; access, charging capacity, technology compatibility, payment, mobile applications, GIS mapping.
Financial/Funding Analysis We can help identify government loan programmes to help facilitate the transition and look for potential revenue sources for publicly owned facilities.
Electrical Infrastructure Ensuring your electrical grid can handle the increasing power and energy requirements of a transition to electric vehicles is key and our teams are well versed in helping you achieving this.
Detailed Site Design From civil and environmental permitting, traffic analysis to signing and striping, electrical and structural engineering, our teams provide the full suite of detailed site design services.
Logistics Our experts can help locate EV charging stations to benefit drivers and businesses.
Procurement Support We provide a range of procurement support including: RFI/RFP/RFQ Management, contractor qualification and selection, vendor/shop/field inspection, QA inspections and logistics support.
Construction We provide constructability reviews, construction oversight, schedule management, safety, construction contract management/ administration, construction RFI management, coordination of contractors, manage punch list, and change order management.

Our team is well-versed and experienced with considering challenges and finding innovative solutions

Power Source
Electrical service determining capacity plays a pivotal role in if a site can feasibly implement EV charging. Incorporating renewable power sources may improve the project feasibility.

Cost of Power
Utility rate structures and demand charges need to be considered as clients plan their EV infrastructure program.

Location
Proximity to power, road infrastructure and societal needs are among several factors that influence the location of EV charging.

Accessibility
Access to all is critical for ubiquitous energy supply, not just those who have off-street car parking.

Permitting
Cross authority partnerships in infrastructure provision are a must to ensure rural and suburban access to EV services.

Technology
Considering what type of charging station should be installed is key to helping ensure operational excellence.

Charging into the 4th Industrial Revolution

The delivery of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the UK has the potential to generate significant revenue return to the Exchequer, create significant public value and establish a global template, placing British iconography at the heart of the 4th Industrial Revolution. This Green Paper sets out recommendations for Government to capitalise on the provision of a new social infrastructure model across the UK. Read More
