Byron has a dual role, providing technical support as a mechanical engineer and cultural support as a Māori advisor for the New Zealand Water business. He’s passionate about growing of Te Ao Māori at Stantec and developing our Water business throughout the lower North Island.
He aha te mea nui i te ao? He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata. Byron’s focus on people underpins everything he does at work. Being of Māori and Pakeha descent, he sees his role bridge these two worlds, reaching into the community to provide better and sustainable outcomes for the environment and future generations. His broad set of technical and transformational skills have been developed by working on everything from small fit-outs and large commercial buildings through to large-scale warehouses and site infrastructure. A project favourite of his was working with the services team at Archives New Zealand to embed Te Ao Māori into its new building through tikanga Māori and finding solutions to the many technical difficulties that come with such a complex building.
In his spare time, Byron is a competitive powerlifter, and entrepreneur—he developed a Māori boardgame to help people learn te Reo in a fun way.
