Tucson Water Reservoir and Tank Rehabilitation Program
Water storage facilities are costly elements of a water distribution system but are especially critical in Arizona’s drought-ridden Sonoran Desert—and they need to be inspected regularly. Tucson Water’s potable and reclaimed systems consist of over 70 concrete and steel storage facilities that store more than 335 million gallons of water. These critical components of the water delivery system were built mostly in the 1980s and 1990s, so upkeep is vital.
In partnership with Westland Engineering and Environmental Services, our turnkey asset management program includes conducting inspections of tanks and reservoirs on a rotating annual basis and we produce condition assessment reports for each one. Commercial scuba divers perform interior tank inspections that include cleaning, inspection, video documentation, and condition reporting of the infrastructure, while our structural engineering team uses rafts to conduct inspections of larger tank interiors.
These inspections will inform necessary upgrades, and the Westland-Stantec team will work closely with Tucson Water to provide innovative, cost-saving solutions that include rehabilitation design plans and overseeing construction services, ensuring a reliable water supply in the desert for years to come.
