Providing modern standards for forensic psychiatric treatment and reducing wait times for hospital admission

One of only two forensic psychiatric hospitals in the commonwealth, the Pennsylvania State Department of Human Services allocated US$388 million for construction of a new facility to serve the region for decades to come. They selected us as the architect of record for this important project.

Our services include architectural and interior design, mechanical and electrical engineering, energy modeling, acoustical engineering, lean facilitation, and technology. We partnered with architecture+ to lend their expertise to programming and concept design.

The 225-acre (91-hectare) Norristown State Hospital campus houses two forensic psychiatric buildings with a combined 255 forensic beds. Before work commences on the new building, these existing structures will be demolished. However, the existing forensic facility must remain operational until the new facility is built, at which time the old buildings will be decommissioned and demolished.

When complete, the new 420-bed forensic facility will provide care to individuals who are involved with the judicial or corrections systems and need psychiatric evaluation or treatment. It will also include a medical unit to address patients’ co-morbidities with behavioral and physical health needs.
