We provided detailed electrical and civil design for three new 138 kV line terminals

As a sub-consultant to Power System Development, we integrated new electrical equipment and support structures into an existing substation in need of expansion to continue serving its community. Our detailed electrical design involved layout drawings, elevation drawings, and material take off for the addition of new 138kV transmission equipment. This new equipment consisted of three new breakers, ten new vertical disconnects, low profile bus-work, three dead end towers, surge arresters, potential transformers, and more. In addition, we completed a detailed design of the associated protection and controls systems including wiring diagrams and cable lists.

Merging new breaker bays into the existing substation with minimal disruption to power was a challenging aspect of this project. Our solution? A design that matched the existing substation design yet allowed for removable sections of bus and flexible jumpers added to allow for a quick and easy cut-in between the newly designed and existing substations. Due to our imaginative design, there was minimal disruption to services during construction, commissioning, and cut-in.
