Chagrin Falls Intermediate School Renovation and Addition

In 1885 the first school building was constructed on the Chagrin Falls Intermediate School site. Since then, three buildings have been added to make up what is now home to 400 students in grades four through six. This facility represents three eras—the 1914 Chagrin Falls High School, the 1940’s auditorium and gymnasium, and the 2019 grade house, cafeteria, and kitchen.

To pay homage to the rich Chagrin Falls history, we restored the older building exterior shells while updating the interiors to the latest standards in technology, sustainability, and design. The new three-story classroom wing has six classrooms on each floor, and each floor also has a learning commons collaboration space that doubles as a library. The renovated auditorium has 460 seats, a renewed stage, restored plaster walls and ceiling, and new systems for lighting, sound, and projection.

The cafeteria preserves the original stone archways and will be used as pre-event space for the auditorium. The site also features a renovated gymnasium, new exterior play areas, special needs classrooms, and STEM classrooms as well as dedicated rooms for world languages, art, and music.

This project was a tremendous opportunity to bridge past and future and improve the efficiency of the school while preserving the historic fabric of the community.
