Cochrane Aquatic Centre and Curling Club

The Town of Cochrane’s Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sport Centre was expanding, and we were brought in to design. The new expansion will house the Cochrane Aquatic Centre and Curling Club as well as a new main entry and lobby. The lobby, a bustling social hub and gathering space, welcomes visitors with an 11.5-metre-high atrium, seating and view areas, concessions, and the main control desk. A floating, curved feature stair will provide access to the second-floor physiotherapy, sports training area, a fitness center, and a curling lounge.

The curling club will feature six full-size curling ice sheets, three junior size curling sheets, a full-service lounge, and a surface area that can accommodate an NHL-sized rink or be converted for other dry land functions. The aquatics center, attracting visitors of all ages and abilities, will include an eight-lane lap pool with seating for 250 spectators and a zero-beach entry leisure pool equipped with wave generation, warm up lanes, spray features and jets, a tot’s pool, and a lazy river.

Set to be completed in 2017, the Cochrane Aquatic Centre and Curling Club expansion will support the current and future needs of Cochrane’s growing community with more spaces for fitness and fun.
