Taking steps towards a greener future

Green hydrogen, a key player in global decarbonization, offers a chance to foster new, green economies. It can lessen reliance on crucial imports like fertilizers and spur the growth of high-value industries.

As a subproject of the Global Technical Assistance Facility for Sustainable Energy, our team is assisting national stakeholders in Africa in crafting green hydrogen strategies and roadmaps, defining which positioning would be best suited for each country’s specificities, creating enabling legal and regulatory frameworks, setting up support schemes for leveraging public and private investment, and building capacities. The team also aids the European Commission in evaluating locations for green hydrogen production and imports to Europe as part of its fuel import diversification strategy.

In September 2023, the initial accomplishments of this project were unveiled at the African Climate Summit in Nairobi. The Green Hydrogen Strategy and Roadmap for Kenya was launched, marking a significant milestone. This project is set to boost the economic and sustainable growth of the Kenyan community in the forthcoming years, as well as the growth of communities all over the African continent.
