Focused on collecting ecological data through flora and fauna identification, Daniel believes it’s essential to keep the preservation and protection of Australia’s iconic biodiversity top of mind. His role also covers fauna salvage and the drafting of ecological assessments.
Daniel enjoys the puzzle-like nature of his role—he says that distinguishing between a Manna Gum, a Candlebark and a Brittle Gum might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it certainly gives him a kick! He’s an assistant to a consulting arborist, assessing, and supervising excavation works occurring within the protection zones of trees, as per the Australian Standard. One particular project Daniel worked on was the preliminary arboricultural assessments that were undertaken as a part of North East Link South Alliance (NELSA), (recently renamed Eastern Freeway Burke to Tram Alliance). So far, the team has assessed over 7,000 trees, and Daniel has been involved in devising novel ways to improve some of the more technical reporting elements.
Always known to find joy in literature, Daniel is a self-confessed bookworm and aspiring author. He’s also often found enjoying the great outdoors, hiking, scuba diving, and learning how to sail.
