Sam is a senior marine scientist and project manager, usually serving as Marine Environment team leader on multidisciplinary projects nationally and internationally. He works on environmental baseline and impact assessment studies for various sector projects including offshore energy, ports and marine terminals, and subsea cables and pipelines.
One of his most notable projects was a proposed new port and ilmenite sand mining project in southeastern Madagascar. The work included investigating ocean currents, reefs, fisheries, migrating whales, and mangroves. That meant transporting all field equipment from North America and then returning with water, sediment, and biota samples for chemical analyses. More recently, he’s managing the environmental and social impact assessment for a Caribbean port development project in Montserrat.
When he isn’t at work, you might find Sam sailing or traveling to new destinations in diverse climates so his daughters can experience varied cultures, foods, and unique environmental features.
