Drawing on more than a decade of experience, Cole serves as our Canada West mammal specialist. Specializing in studying terrestrial wildlife, he concentrates on species at risk in Canada’s prairie, parkland, and boreal regions. His expertise lies in wildlife monitoring projects using autonomous recording devices, trail cameras, and other innovative survey techniques for wildlife detection.
Cole’s proudest achievement is his involvement in the Lynn Lake Gold Project in northwestern Manitoba. Notable highlights include the deployment and maintenance of 32 trail cameras that have operated uninterrupted for over nine years. And in a first for the region, these cameras identified threatened woodland caribou in the study area, which were previously undocumented.
When he’s not monitoring the movements of wildlife, Cole enjoys gardening, music, photography, and outdoor activities with his family. He also works seasonally as a guide in Churchill, Manitoba, leading photography tours focused on beluga whales, polar bears, and the northern lights.
