An environmental engineer, Laya has completed several environmental site assessments and large-scale mine remediation projects in northern Canada. She has extensive experience in project management, preparing field work plans, result analyses and reporting for a variety of projects. Laya is an expert in bringing together practitioners from around the country to form multidisciplinary teams to complete even the largest and most complex projects.
Laya has often faced down the challenges of working in isolated areas. She was recently involved in the remediation and construction of an on-site waste containment area as part of a mine remediation and closure at a remote site in the Northwest Territories. There, Laya and her team overcame the difficulties of limited site access, remote communications, limited resources, and a shortened construction season due to the arctic climate. Most recently, she was involved in remedial specifications and designing a waste containment facility as part of remediation for a site in Nunavut.
When she’s not at work, Laya is an active member of her community. She sits on the board for the Construction Association of Nova Scotia Developing Executives Group and is often involved in local Lebanese community events.
