Spencer is a data scientist working at the intersection of data analytics, modeling, and economic geography. He wrangles data and statistical models to tell compelling stories about places—these stories guide action.
Currently, Spencer’s work focuses on housing and market analyses at a variety of scales, ranging from the development of single parcels to the housing needs of metropolitan regions. Projects he’s worked on include housing gap analyses for places as diverse as Minot, North Dakota, and Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, to Indianapolis, Indiana. He’s also performed market analyses for suburban retrofit projects in suburban Houston and urban entertainment districts in downtown Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Spencer prioritizes clear communication of technical data and analyses—he seeks to not hide behind perplexity but instead share information as a means towards identifying the right problem and developing effective strategies.
Spencer holds a PhD in geography, environment, and society from the University of Minnesota where he focused in economic and urban geography. He loves to cook delicious food and share meals with his family and play sports.
